The Mead From Mimir‘s Well

By Brian Bailey

Brian is a retired professional mechanical engineer who has studied and practised several forms of yoga and meditation over some 45 years. He has attended many spiritual/healing development courses over the years. In addition, he has also studied and experienced many forms of healing, including, psychology, crystals, reflexology, shiatsu, spiritual healing, shamanism. He has studied the teachings of Taoism, Tibetan Buddhism and Tibetan Bon, Vedanta and the works of Alice A. Bailey in particular, among various belief systems. Oracles, the I Ching, the Tarot, astrology and dowsing also interest him. In the past he has been a member of an Earth Healing group for 10 years but at present is a solitary practitioner. He has received teachings and initiations from several Tibetan Buddhist Masters and has experienced  initiations through the Runes themselves.

Brian sent us this information about his work with Runes and his new book The Mead from Mimir’s Well which will form the basis for his upcoming courses:-

This searching for knowledge and the study of esoteric subjects was precipitated by illnesses which had persisted since childhood and which conventional medicine seemed unable to deal with effectively. It was, through the suggestion of a friend, that the start of my study of yoga led to an ever widening interest in and attempt to understand the nature of my own illness and illness in general. A further suggestion to study the Runes, which seemed wholly alien to my instincts at the time, led me along an amazing path of discovery.

During the course of my study of the Runes I have received channelled information regarding the Runes, from time to time, and their use in relation to healing which has also provided the impetus for furthering my research on this topic in a more conventional manner.

Later a research visit to Norway led to the writing of The Mead From Mimir‘s Well which has occupied much of my spare time over the past 20 years. This exciting project continues, involving further research into the Runes and related topics, particularly the chakra system.

In parallel with the above I also nursed my wife for most of our married life. Unfortunately  she became very seriously ill over the last fifteen years so that, though I was trying write The Mead From Mimir‘s Well‘, it didn‘t proceed very quickly. Equally though, I concluded several times that it was complete and I was told, sort of on an intuitive level - so to speak, ‘no it isn‘t, there‘s bits missing‘. Oh dear, how frustrating. Anyway it is now complete and I am starting to deal with the issues of publication.

So it is not really very surprising that the awareness of karmic forces has led me down diverse experiential paths. This has also introduced me to several esoteric teachings, furthering my understanding of the Runes.

The Mead From Mimir‘s Well

The Mead From Mimir‘s Well‘ is completely unique in that it is the very first book about the Runes which explains, in a coherent manner, what the Runes actually are. This is achieved in a practical way, by showing that the esoteric lore of the Runes, which has lain largely unrecognised and unexplained for many centuries in Northern Europe, already existed in its revealed form within the symbology of other traditions.

The esoteric meaning of the Runes is shown to be consistent with metaphysical concepts contained within various oriental philosophies and also within the teachings of Alice A. Bailey. The Runic lore and myths can be more easily understood by examining these teachings and by making comparisons with the mythic tradition of the Runes. Comparisons are also made with Jungian concepts which contributes to a further understanding of this approach. A systematic structural relationship is shown to exist between the Runes, the chakras, the Seven Rays and Jungian archetypes. This approach provides us with a ready means of understanding the content of the Runes.

Many tables and diagrams are included within the book which illustrate and explain the esoteric meaning of the individual Runes in a precise, clear, logical and structured way.

The book argues that the Norse gods are in reality hypostases of various deities. It also attempts to show that this lies within the framework of shamanic experience.

The book makes use of the above in the presentation of a new Rune Oracle. A Rune divination table is included, together with much practical guidance for its use.

Appendix 1 includes a general introduction to oracles, and games, which attempts to show how and why they work. It also shows how this knowledge may be employed to further understanding of Runic divination.

Although writing the book involved a great deal of formal research and study its contents were written to some extent through channelling and as a result of my own shamanic experiences rather than through any particular intellectual processes.

A second book is currently in preparation which will deal with more advanced aspects of the Runes especially in relation to their use in healing and meditation.

As an outcome to the above I am commencing courses on the Runes with a particular emphasis on their use in a healing context. In the past I have given courses on their use as an oracle but now feel that their healing context is significantly much more important.

The Runes - Tools for Healing; an Introduction to the Esoteric Wisdom of the Runes

The Runes are fantastic, mysterious, magical, written characters or symbols, which are found as cryptic writing, in a variety of forms. They are primarily associated with Northern Europe and more especially with the Vikings. They are to be found throughout Europe and, it is claimed, that they have even been found as far afield as North America, though this is disputed.

Simplistically, the Runes may be described as a pagan alphabet comprising of a number of rectilinear characters which were commonly incised in wood, bone, metal or stone.

There will be Introductory and Advanced Courses, both of which will be fully illustrated and will provide a full, clear explanation of the esoteric meaning of the individual Runes.

Particular attention will be paid to the chakra system and we shall also examine some of the latest understanding regarding the chakras and karma.

An understanding of the Runes‘ symbology can provide those engaged in the healing arts with a greater perspective of the dynamics of healing. For instance, there is a relationship between individual crystals and individual, companion, Runes.

A 3 Day Introductory Course:

The course removes the Runes from their pagan, medieval and tribal origins and projects them into the 21‘st century.

The course content is based on my book - The Mead From Mimir‘s Well‘ - which is unique in that it is the very first book about the Runes which explains, in a systematic way, what the Runes actually are.

A systematic structural relationship is shown to exist between the Runes, the chakras, the Seven Rays and Jungian archetypes which also incorporate the concepts of karma and chi.

This approach will provide a ready means of understanding the symbolic content of the Runes.

Through synthesis of Eastern and Western spiritual systems a new understanding and expanded consciousness is brought to the Runic teachings. We are now able to understand their potency as being sacred keys or tools of enlightenment. Each Rune is a key to expansion of our consciousness through our personal integration with universal energy streams.

This is achieved by showing that the esoteric lore of the Runes, which has lain largely unrecognised and unexplained for many centuries in Northern Europe, already existed in its revealed form within the symbology of the oriental traditions.

The esoteric meaning of the Runes is shown to be consistent with metaphysical concepts contained within various oriental philosophies and also within the teachings of Alice A. Bailey. The Runic lore and myths can be more easily understood by making comparisons with the above teachings. Additionally, comparison with Jungian concepts contributes to a more complete understanding.

The course will present tables, diagrams and illustrations which help to illustrate and explain the esoteric meaning of the individual Runes in a precise, clear, logical and structured way. Particular attention will be paid to the chakra system and we will also examine some of the latest understanding regarding the chakras and karma.

The course will show how the Runes may be used systematically on their own or in conjunction with other healing systems to enhance the healers knowledge and skills. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience and extend their understanding of the healing process.

In any event, the spiritual content of the courses will be emphasised. The courses are based on the content of my book.

On completion of the three days course participants will receive a certificate of attendance.

Rune Study, Research Group:

A Rune Study, Research Group will be formed with a specific emphasis on their use as a healing tool, headed by Brian Bailey. This group will be available to those with a serious interest in the healing arts and for those who have attended the Introductory course.
